Treena Stubel is the Artistic Director and all-round driver behind the BOUNCE events. She created these events with the aim of providing dancers, or rather movement-based artists, the opportunity to work with a mentor as well as interact with an audience. This Saturday The BOUNCE Dance Cabaret will be presented at Dance Victoria Studios (2750 Quadra Street), featuring the works of Kayla Henry, Brandy Baybutt, Lori Hamar, and Stacey Horton. Treena Stubel describes what BOUNCE is in her own words:
The BOUNCE Dance Cabaret is a platform for innovation that features the physical creator who is compelled to speak in their own voice. Since 2009 our artists have been producing brand new works. We’ve been challenging ourselves and have been pushed into new territory. Our audience has been invaluable by sharing their feedback with the performers in studio talkbacks and casual post-show conversations. This interaction has propelled much of our work further.
Our May 17 BOUNCE is going a step further! The featured choreographers have returned to works that have been presented at a past Bounce event and have taken them to the next level of development under the mentorship of Vancouver’s Jennifer Mascall.
We’re just emerging from a stimulating time of creation, and can’t wait to present these ideas in their next stage of growth. The evening is woven together in song by our special guest host, Victoria’s favorite Sarah Pelzer.
