Dance Victoria’s second annual Choreographic Lab is July 16 to 28, 2018 with celebrated choreographer Wen Wei Wang. Wang will lead the two-week intensive for three emerging choreographers and seven pre-professional dancers. Each day the choreographers are assigned a creative task in the morning and they show their work at day’s end. The public is invited to see the works during the second week and for a final showing on Saturday, July 28. Visit dancevictoria.com closer to the date for details.

“Local dance artists will learn from Wen Wei’s mentorship and develop their skills as emerging choreographers, ” explains Stephen White, Executive Producer, Dance Victoria. “In turn, the community in Victoria is exposed to new work and the creation process. It’s intimate, collaborative, and an opportunity to bring together choreographers, dancers and audience members in a completely unique way.”

The three choreographers selected to participate in the lab include Kelly Hobson, Meredith Kalaman and Jamie Robinson. They will create new works on the following dancers who were selected through auditions in Vancouver and Victoria: Isak Enquist; Eowynn Enquist; Daria Mikhaylyuk; Adrian de Leeuw; Julia Sloan; Paula Cobo Botello; Matthew Wyllie; and apprentices Joshua Hidson and Pearl Edmunds. Visit dancevictoria.com for bios of the participants.
