Rediscover the Magic of Your Childhood with Nutcracker
Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet & Victoria Symphony
Royal Theatre, November 30 + December 1 + 2, 7:30 pm | December 1 + 2, 2:00 pm
Dance Victoria is pleased to bring a Special Presentation of Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s Nutcracker to the Royal Theatre from November 30 through to December 2, 2018 accompanied by the Victoria Symphony.
As much a part of the holiday season as the region’s Lighted Truck Convoy and Island Farm’s Light Parade, Nutcracker has toured to the Royal Theatre for years showcasing the talents of Canada’s top prima ballerinas and dancers. Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s Canadian-themed production opens with a hockey game on a frozen pond, features RCMP officers in a battle on Parliament Hill with the evil Mouse King, and gives some nods to the Hudson Bay Company. To add to the fun, the mischievous Filbert the Bear steals the Christmas pudding. Furry mice and Hudson the Polar Bear with his 12 cubs will warm your heart. As the clock strikes midnight, Clara will fall in love with her dashing Nutcracker prince and find herself on a storybook journey that will take her into the heart of a timeless fairy tale.
Due to the success of RWB’s production in Victoria, Dance Victoria has added a fifth performance on Sunday, December 2. This production continues to be Dance Victoria’s top-grossing presentation each season with lots of community members and resources involved: 27 company dancers; 45 members of the Victoria Symphony; 75 children from local dance schools in the Nutcracker Ensemble; and 35 backstage crew for each performance.
