Applications for the 2019 Chrystal Dance Prize for Emerging Dance Artists are now open. Interested dance artists must apply by May 13, 2019, 4 p.m. PDT.
The Chrystal Dance Prize for Emerging Dance Artists is a scholarship program for dancers/dance artists wanting to continue or complete their training and/or studies at a recognized institution outside Canada. Dance Victoria will award up to $6,000 for emerging artists. Applicants must be residents of western Canada and this prize only supports full-time studies. Intensives and summer programs are not eligible for support from the Chrystal Dance Prize program. Preference will be given to Victoria residents; however, it’s worth noting there are years when no Victoria students apply making it an open field. If artists are entering a second or third year of study, and are living in a foreign country, their permanent address or place of origin must be in western Canada.
Past awards have been provided for students attending The Juilliard School, the Alonzo King LINES Ballet Training Program, the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School of Ballet (ABT), Butler University and more. The 2018 Emerging Artist Award winners were Holden Cole from Port Alberni who was entering his first year at The Julliard School ($3,000) and Adrian de Leeuw in his second year of training at the Alonzo King LINES Ballet School in San Francisco.
The Chrystal Dance Prize is Canada’s richest dance prize for international collaboration. Since 2010, Dance Victoria has awarded its Chrystal Dance Prize for Independent Artists annually to dance artists from Western Canada working with international artists…
