Dance Victoria celebrates 25 years of bringing the World’s Best Dance to the Royal Theatre this year! Single tickets are now on sale for our much-anticipated Dance at the Royal Series when we return to the Royal Theatre for live dance performances by extraordinary dance companies.

Dance at the Royal Series Live Presentations (Feb to April 2022)

The Dance at the Royal Series showcases the artistic talents of three leading-edge companies that push the boundaries of contemporary dance and movement theatre. We can’t wait for you to experience the exhilaration of live dance again! Perhaps you’re feeling uncertain whether you’re ready to return to the Royal in-person? We’ve got you covered! Your ticket purchase includes the option of watching a livestream of the performances at the Royal Theatre in real-time from the comfort of your home! Three-show subscriptions, single tickets and the four-ticket discount flex pass are available for these performances.

The street dancers of Compagnie Hervé KOUBI (France/Algiers) from Algeria, Morocco, France and Burkina Faso, open the season with The Barbarian Nights (or the First Dawns of the World) on February 4 and 5, 2022. With their breathtaking energy, wearing headgear inspired by Swarovski, the dancers evoke the humanity of the early ‘barbarians’ of the Mediterranean basin, whirling dark skirts and moving with stunning fluidity against a musical backdrop of Mozart, Fauré and traditional Algerian melodies. Watch a trailer of these incredible artists in action.

On March 11 and 12, 2022, Ballet BC (Vancouver) brings Reveal + Tell, amixed contemporary program of three internationally renowned dancemakers. We will reveal a new world premiere by Artistic Director Medhi Walerski set to an original score by composer Adrien Cronet; the Canadian premiere of Woke Up Blind, an intense exploration of love from virtuosic creator Marco Goecke; and The Statement, a striking and theatrical masterpiece from Ballet BC alumni Crystal Pite – arguably the most sought-after choreographer in the world.

We end our season with one of the most remarkable contemporary collaborations in ballet. Ballet Hispánico (New York) will share their new full-length ballet, Doña Perón by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa,to music with hints of tango by Peter Salem,on April 8 and April 9, 2022. Doña Perón is a powerful portrait of Eva “Evita” Perón, that captures her strength, struggle, and emergence as a leader and enshrined popular icon in South American history.
