On behalf of its Board of Directors, Dance Victoria is announcing that General Manager Bernard Sauvé will transition out of his full-time position with the organization in the summer of 2023. Sauvé has been Dance Victoria’s General Manager for nine years, bringing his extensive knowledge and expertise in finance, programming, and business management to the organization, and playing a vital role in its success.

“The Board and staff will dearly miss the talent, expertise, and wonderful spirit that Bernard brought to Dance Victoria,” says Board President, Colette Baty. “His imprint on our organization will be felt far into the future. As Bernard enters the new and well-deserved chapter of his life, Dance Victoria will embrace this transition with excitement and a sense of celebration. We bid Bernard a fond, yet reluctant, au revoir.”

“I’m very grateful for nine incredible years at Dance Victoria, working with amazing colleagues,” says Sauvé. “With Dance Victoria being in a strong financial position after the pandemic, it feels like the right time for me to embark on the next adventure in my life. I’m committed to ensuring that there is a seamless transition in my role. Working with Gillian Jones over the past eight months has been a pleasure. I’m confident that she, in partnership with Dance Victoria’s next General Manager, will continue to fulfill the organization’s mandate to bring the World’s Best Dance to Victoria.”

Sauvé began at Dance Victoria in November 2014. He was previously co-founder of Eponymous in Vancouver, assisting arts organizations and artists working in Canadian dance, film, music theatre, and the visual arts. He was also a Program Officer at the Canada Council for the Arts.

“I want to personally acknowledge what a gift it has been to work with Bernard since I joined Dance Victoria,” says Executive Director, Gillian Jones. “During our time together, Bernard has generously shared his deep knowledge of the organization, our systems, and community relationships. We cannot replace what he brings to the table – his personal experience as a professional dancer, his business management skills, and his passion for dance – however, Dance Victoria is in an excellent position, in large part, thanks to Bernard, to manage this transition. I wish him immense happiness and all the best in this next stage of his life.”

The search process for Dance Victoria’s next General Manager is underway, with the goal to fill the position by July 2023.
