VICTORIA, B.C. – In 2024, Dance Victoria will allocate $60,500 to Western Canadian dance artists through the prestigious Chrystal Dance Prize – Projects (CDP), an award that supports exceptional dance research and/or creation between a Western Canadian dance artist, collectives or companies and an international dance artist(s), interpreter, or choreographer.
Dance artists, collectives or companies are now invited to submit Expressions of interest to the CDP – Projects award. Eligible applicants must:
- Be currently active in the professional dance milieu;
- Have worked with a range of dance artists and/or companies and have a history of creation;
- Have a home address in Western Canada (BC, YT, AB, NWT, SK, MB, NU); and
- Be making their application as an independent dance artist, member of a small collective, or established company.
Expressions of Interest must be received by 5:00 pm PDT on Friday, October 18, 2024. Please refer to the Chrystal Dance Prize – Projects Guidelines for full details.
Since 2010, Dance Victoria has awarded more than $484,000 through the CDP – Projects award. The Chrystal Dance Prize is generated from a bequest made by Dance Victoria patron Dr. Betty “Chrystal” Kleiman to the Victoria Foundation. Twice each year, a committee of dance professionals is assembled to select recipients for Projects and Training prizes. CDP funds may be disbursed across multiple projects or awarded to one project.
Dance Victoria encourages equity-deserving and underrepresented artists to apply for the Chrystal Dance Prize. Applications from persons of colour, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, persons of all sexual orientations and genders, and others who may contribute to the further diversification and advancement of dance in our community are welcomed.
