Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet (RWB) brings its large-scale production of Nutcracker to the Royal Theatre for five performances from November 29 through December 1, 2024. Featuring a hockey game, Mounties, polar bears, reindeer, and a battle on Parliament Hill, RWB brings the wintertime classic we all love – with a Canadian twist. Don’t miss this timeless holiday tradition!
RWB’s Nutcracker showcases the rigor and talents of Canada’s finest prima ballerinas. The story is iconic: when Clara receives a magical gift from her godfather, an incredible adventure begins as the Nutcracker comes to life! As the clock strikes midnight, Clara falls in love with her dashing Nutcracker prince and finds herself on a storybook journey that will take her into the heart of a fairy tale. From an epic battle with the wicked Mouse King to the enchanting realm of the Sugar Plum Fairy, this production features stunning costumes, lavish sets, elaborate choreography, and unforgettable characters that will delight the whole family.
This RWB production continues to be Dance Victoria’s largest-scale presentation. In addition to RWB’s 27 company dancers, Nutcracker engages 45 members of the Victoria Symphony; 56 local youths dancing in the Children’s Ensemble; and 35 backstage crew for each performance.
Beginning one hour before each performance, ticket holders are invited to join Dance Victoria’s Sugar Plum Party featuring family-friendly activities and photo opportunities. This RBC-sponsored celebration will activate the Royal Theatre lobbies.
Dance Victoria’s presentation of RWB’s Nutcracker is made possible with generous support from Lead Sponsors JB Lawyers and Langford Physiotherapy & Medical Acupuncture. Dance Victoria is grateful for the support of 2024/25 Season Sponsor Derma Spa. Additional support for Nutcracker is provided by Rob Tournour Masonry / Another Brick in Nepal (Orchestra Sponsor) and Victoria Academy of Ballet (Children’s Ensemble Sponsor).
