Application deadline: May 30, 2025, at 5:00 pm PT

Dance Victoria (DV) is now accepting applications for its annual Artist Residency program. Independent dance artists and collectives based in B.C. are invited to submit proposals for creative residencies during the 2025/26 season (July 2025 to June 2026).
For over fifteen years, Dance Victoria’s Artist Residency program has been a cornerstone of artistic development in the province, with DV Studios evolving into a choreographic centre that vitalizes the sector. Major studio upgrades completed in 2022 further enhanced the space’s adaptability for filmmaking, live-stream and in-person performances, making it a coveted resource for B.C. artists. In the 2024/25 season alone, more than 1,000 hours of studio time have been contributed to local creators, including nine artists- and collectives-in-residence.
The Artist Residency program enables dance artists from diverse backgrounds, experience levels (emerging to established), and disciplines to develop their artistic vision through research/exploration, creation, outreach, and performance. Residencies include access to Dance Victoria’s Quadra Village studios (up to 80 hours); project support and mentorship; and a direct financial contribution.
Dance Victoria is committed to supporting a healthy, diverse, and collaborative dance milieu. The Artist Residency program provides a responsive framework to support, inspire and sustain local dance artists, while addressing the challenge of securing affordable professional rehearsal and performance space in Greater Victoria.
Eligibility
Eligible artists will have:
- Created a minimum of three different pieces, each of five minutes or more;
- Pursued professional training and/or mentorship as either a dancer or creator;
- Worked in the professional dance milieu; and
- Demonstrated a desire to continue to grow their practice and openness to direction.
Dance Victoria welcomes applications from all B.C.-based artists, ranging from emerging to established, with a priority to serve Vancouver Island and equity-deserving artists. Dance Victoria encourages applications from IBPoC (Indigenous, Black, People of Colour) artists, artists with disabilities, artists of all sexual orientations and genders, and others who may contribute to the further diversification and advancement of dance in the region.
