VICTORIA, B.C.— On March 6 + 7, Dance Victoria presents GALLIM in a program showcasing 17 years of Artistic Director Andrea Miller’s choreographic visionThe Royal Theatre performances mark the critically acclaimed New York company’s Victoria premiere.

Dance Victoria’s Executive Director, Gillian Jones, shares: “This is a company that dance lovers in our city do not want to miss! In a dynamic mixed rep program, Miller’s bold and powerful choreography is paired with a contagious soundtrack that will have audience members pulsing in their seats.”

Under the direction of groundbreaking artist Andrea Miller—the first choreographer to be named Artist-in-Residence at The Metropolitan Museum of Art—GALLIM performs for audiences worldwide. The company has garnered acclaim for its striking physicality and emotional depth, alongside boundary-pushing collaborations across artistic disciplines. Uniting movement, visual art, film, fashion, and sound, GALLIM creates innovative dance performances that are shaping the future of contemporary dance.

Bodies of Matter is a powerful collection of six distinct works: state, Middle Length Poem, BRUCE, FROM, No Ordinary Love, and SAMA. The program explores the body as a vessel for memory, connection, and transcendence. Miller reflects: “There are essential, ambiguous, and complex elements of our humanity that can only be accessed through our physical experience…” Bodies of Matterbrings this belief to life, illuminating the expressive potential of the body. Driven by an eclectic soundscape that moves seamlessly between classical, pop, and electronic music, GALLIM’s dancers inhabit the stage with unfiltered emotion, precision, and humanity.

Bodies of Matter will ground audiences in the immediacy of embodiment—as if plugged into some “primal pulse, awakening and ultimately pummeling the senses” (The Guardian). This mixed program doesn’t just ask to be watched, it asks to be felt, absorbed, and experienced through the body.

Audience members are invited to attend a Pre-show Chat with a company representative at 6:45 pm in the Royal Theatre lobby, facilitated by Dr. Allana Lindgren, Dean of Fine Arts at the University of Victoria. GALLIM will also facilitate a free community Masterclass—details coming soon. Dance Victoria’s presentation of GALLIM is made possible with generous support from Season Sponsor Derma Spa, Lead Presentation Sponsors Dunbar Raymond James and PONY Communications, and with public support from the Government of Canada, Canada Council for the Arts, Government of BC, BC Arts Council, and the CRD Arts & Culture Support Service.
