In the days following our announcement that Dance Victoria is suspending its 2020/21 Season, we received an outpouring of support, questions and concerns regarding the stability of our organization, and our ability to move forward.
I wanted to reassure you that through the combination of generous donors, public funding agencies and federal emergency programs, we’ve been able to retain our core team as we head into the new season. We have a solid financial footing. It has been a heck of a ride, but we’re good.
We’re taking a little time to catch our breath before we regroup with new energy to develop programs that will bring us together in small groups to experience intimate performances and dance events at Dance Victoria Studios.
One thing is certain: in the coming months, Dance Victoria will invest in dance artists and their development of new work. The creative community has been hit especially hard. We need to be there for them.
In July and August, Dance Victoria will host four creative residencies at its studios led by Victoria and Vancouver-based choreographers. With support from the RBC Foundation and D’Ambrosio architecture + urbanism, we have retained the services of local dance dramaturg/coach Susan Elliott. Susan will come into the studios and work one-on-one with the choreographers and dancers as they develop their new pieces. I’ll share more information about Susan and the Summer Residency program in a future communication.
Until then, know that you are in our thoughts. Stay safe and stay healthy.
