Noble Riot Dance Theatre, a Victoria-based contemporary dance company founded by Kayla Henry, welcomes guest choreographer Karissa Barry to develop Holding Space. This new creation is a duet exploring co-existence, intimacy, and spiritual evolution. Through a method called “System Tracking,” dancers respond to each other’s energy, allowing choreography to emerge organically, while solo passages reveal personal journeys of growing beside another without losing oneself.

Noble Riot Dance Theatre (NRDT) is a Victoria-based professional contemporary dance company that is honoured to be located on the stolen and unceded lands of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples, today known as Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations. The company was founded in 2021 by Artistic Director Kayla Henry.

NRDT’s creations have so far been supported by the BC Arts Council, the Province of British Columbia, CRD Arts & Culture, Dance Victoria, Impulse Theatre, Xchanges Gallery & Studios, and the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna.

NRDT is committed to making art that addresses our global existence, questions the dominant culture, provokes emotional responses and inquiries, and inspires insights—all while having a boisterous riot. As a global society, Henry believes we have been trained to repress expression and to allow our growing unease to become a growing disease. NRDT strives to both create and present contemporary dance works that are relevant, innovative and honest.
