FREE Contemporary Dance Workshop

An Introduction to Contemporary Dance with Kayla Henry
Register beginning 10am May 12
Discover the freedom and expression of contemporary dance in this welcoming beginner class! Perfect for those new to dance, this class focuses on contemporary techniques, floor work, and simple choreography. You will work on developing strength, flexibility, balance, and musicality in a supportive and creative environment.
No previous dance experience is required; however, it is asked that you are comfortable moving to the ground and back to standing, and that you join us free of any injuries.
Bring your curiosity, energy, and an open mind!

About Kayla Henry
Kayla Henry (she/her) is a mother, performer, creator, and movement educator based on the unceded Coast Salish Territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ nations, in Victoria British Columbia.
Independently, Henry has been creating solo work since 2013 with performances in Austria, Calgary, Edmonton, Victoria, and Winnipeg. Her creations have so far been supported by the CRD Arts & Culture (Victoria, BC), Constance Cooke (Victoria, BC), Dance Victoria (Victoria, BC), Good Women Dance Collective (Edmonton, AB), Impulse Theatre (Victoria, BC), Jennifer Mascall (Vancouver, BC), Springboard Performance (Calgary, AB), Theatre Junction Grand (Calgary, AB), The Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (Austria), and Xchanges Gallery & Studios (Victoria, BC).
Henry graduated from The School of Contemporary Dancers (Winnipeg, MB) where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts. Upon graduating in 2011, she joined Canada’s longest-running contemporary dance company, Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers, where she danced for three seasons.
Additionally, Henry has worked with Xchanges Gallery and Studios (Victoria, BC) as a moving model for their Life Drawing series.
Henry is the Founder and Artistic Director of Noble Riot Dance Theatre in Victoria, BC (2021).
IMPORTANT NOTE: Photos will be taken during the workshop. A photo release form will be available to sign. It is NOT mandatory to consent to photos in order to participate. If you are under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian must sign the waiver and photo release form.
