Before the curtain goes up once again at the Royal Theatre, join us for IGNITE! A Dance Victoria Launch Party to celebrate the kickoff to our 28th season of The World’s Best Dance. IGNITE! will feature a short performance by Vancouver-based contemporary and street dance artist Simran Sachar accompanied by live musician and dancer Sophia Sosa. Sachar is a masterful dancer in Waacking, an energetic dance form with roots in the ‘70s Los Angeles disco scene. The duo will perform an excerpt of ACT TWENTY FIVE, a choreographic work channeled through the dance forms of Waacking and Contemporary.

Guests will enjoy a curated Wayward Distillery gin tasting and signature cocktail by Storied Wines and Spirits, while grooving to DJ Bill Stuart spinning all vinyl. Mouth-watering bites from local artisan suppliers, including Chocolat & Co., The Whole Beast Artisan Salumeria, Little Piggy Catering, and more, will be complemented by a variety of libations including wines by Emandare Vineyard. With an online auction (live Oct. 22) and the opportunity to take home a Mystery Bag full of exciting goodies from local businesses, no one will leave empty-handed!

All proceeds from IGNITE! benefit Dance Victoria’s artist support and community engagement programs, including our annual Residency program in DV’s Quadra Village studios; free community masterclasses and movement workshops; and ticket access programs Nutcracker Kids, Dance Is For Everyone, and Pay Your Age.
