Morris Dancing at Sea Cider Wassail
January 22 @ 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Free
Island Thyme Morris and Hollytree Morris invite you to our performances at Sea Cider’s annual Wassail Day – a blessing of the apple trees with singing and dancing!
We’ll be performing at 12:30pm and 2:30pm, with a variety of English Morris dances and traditional Wassail songs. Dancers may be wielding swords, sticks or hankies, or carrying decorated garlands. We always dance to live music, and our band includes melodeon, concertinas, fiddle, mandolin, recorder and harmonica.
Morris dancing is a centuries-old living tradition, using rhythmic stepping and choreographed figures. Dances are lively and colourful, and are believed to bring good luck, waking up the Earth’s energies to encourage good crops and fertility!
