Welcome to Dance Days 2021

Dance Days 2021

January 15 – 25, 2021

Dance Days, now in its 12th year, encourages the love and appreciation of all kinds of dance. In 2021, we’re flexing our creative muscles so we can adhere to COVID-19 regulations, but we hope this initiative will still move you! Unfortunately, we will not be able to present our informal Rough Cuts performances and discussions at the Metro Studio Theatre in 2021, but we look forward to resuming this in January 2022.

What we are doing is launching an exciting Let it Move You Video Contest in partnership with the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria and you are invited to participate! Details are below or you can download and print them here (PDF).

Request for Video Proposals

What

Dance Victoria, in partnership with the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria, is requesting proposals for 10 two-minute dance videos to be shot on smart phones. The videos will be shared publicly, one per day over 10 days, during Dance Victoria’s Annual Dance Days Festival (January 15 through 25, 2021).

Criteria

This proposal call is open to all ages. No filmmaking/videography or professional dance training is required, but a love for dancing is essential. We welcome any and all kinds of dance. The contest is open to all and Dance Victoria encourages and invites people of diverse cultures and backgrounds to submit work. You can submit as many different videos as you like. Just keep them to under two minutes long each. Solos or group work is welcome.

Finished videos must be at minimum 90 seconds in length and cannot exceed two minutes (120 seconds). Participating videographers are encouraged to be creative and may use apps when editing or creating the video.

Video Guidelines

Please follow recommended video specifications when creating the video:

  • Video should be Full HD quality (1080p = 1920 x 1080 pixels) with at least 30 frames per second
  • Shoot horizontal, not vertical (use a tripod if you have one)
  • Stabilize the image
  • Lighting is very important

Commission

Dance Victoria will pay a $500 commission fee each for 10 video finalists and will reserve the right to share the video, in its entirety or an excerpt, publicly on our social media channels, website and other means. The videographers and participants in each video will be credited.
