The long awaited return of one of Victoria’s favourite dance companies! Alonzo King is a visionary choreographer whose pieces are in the repertoire of the Royal Swedish Ballet, Frankfurt Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Hubbard Street Dance and many, many more.

His 12 dancers are renowned for their long lean lines and explosive athleticism. King’s works are inspired by music and infused with refined aesthetics. This program will include Sand, choreographed to the improvisation of saxophonist Charles Lloyd and pianist Jason Moran, which had its World Premiere in April 2016, and King’s 2014 work Shostakovich which is set to movements from four Shostakovich string quartets.

“King’s dancers are virtuosos of control, so much so that every movement looks as if it’s being experienced, perfectly, for the very first time.

“…the tornado among the dancers, and the liquidly moving but strong Kara Wilkes, they partnered each hand-in-hand, yet coming up with most astounding patterns and personalized images.
