UNIVERSUS

  • 7:30 pm

Worlds are born and collide in this double bill of new works featuring eight powerful dancers, choreographed by Fernando Hernando Magadan and Chrystal Dance Prize winner, and former Ballet BC dancer, Alexis Fletcher. UNIVERSUS explores themes of resilience, connection, and hope, questioning humanity’s ability to adapt and find purpose on a chaotic, changing planet.

Everything and Nothing, choreographed by Fletcher, invites audiences to reflect on their place in the larger web of life, encouraging a sense of beauty, meaning, and wonder in an ever-changing world. STATERA (Latin for balance), choreographed by Magadan—his first professional Canadian commission outside of Ballet BC—explores the fine line between the feeling of safety and danger, the sense of urgency and vulnerability, and the passage of time as we confront our inherent ephemeral nature.

The standing ovation was more than deserved, it was a collective exhale. A thank-you from every soul in the room. UNIVERSUS is not just a dance production, it is a somatic journey into the depths of the human spirit, urging us to embrace our inner truths and find beauty in the impermanence of it all. I left profoundly moved, reminded that we are all orbiting the same mystery, and sometimes, if we’re lucky, we get to feel it move.
