Hung Dance
BIRDY
- 7:30 pm
In 2017, Lai Hung-Chung founded Hung Dance, whose name ‘Hung’ symbolizes the spirit of soaring freedom. “One of the best young choreographers working in Taiwan today” (Taipei Times), the Artistic Director has created an award-winning and visually stunning dance work exploring the tension between freedom and limitation. BIRDY weaves Western mythology and Eastern traditions through stunning contemporary dance, set to an eclectic mix of electronic and Chinese classical music. This work flips Chinese opera props like the pheasant feather (Ling Zi) typically used to symbolize a warrior’s strength and skill, to instead evoke a bird taking flight.
…magnificently textured style, which shifts from earthy, raw-powered movement to jumps that send dancers sailing into the air like spirits.
