The world’s longest renovation project (I know – not as long as the one you lived through) is almost finished as I write this. It’s going to be a handsome space.
The archives committee that meets every Wednesday at our studios recently told me that the whole of the Wynne Shaw collection has been catalogued and that they are ready for more. Shaw was an important mid-century teacher, choreographer and mentor to many in Victoria. In particular, they are looking for any materials there might be about Florence Clough, Dorothy Wilson or Velda Wille — other significant dance teachers/ studio owners — but they may also be interested in what you or your friends have stashed away. Do you have boxes of souvenir dance programs, newspaper clippings or other items that need a safe home? Our intent is to house relevant local materials all in one place. We would hate for the community to lose access to them. Our archive will be connected on-line with the national dance archive so a researcher anywhere in the world can learn about what materials we have on hand here in Victoria.
