Vancouver dance artist, Arash Khakpour, was a recipient of Dance Victoria’s 2016 Chrystal Dance Prize.  He is creating a new duet with Swedish dance artist Emmalena Fredrickson with residencies planned for Victoria, Vancouver and Sweden.

Victoria audiences will remember Arash when he was featured with his brother Aryo in Righteous Floater during Dance Days 2015 as well as from his work with Vancouver’s Out Innerspace. Arash & Aryo also performed at Dance Days’ Rough Cuts in January this year.

This showing is the culmination of a two-week residency. Stay after the short performance to discuss the showing with Arash & Emmalena and enjoy light refreshments.

This event is free but space is limited. RSVP is required.

Wen Wei Wang & Kaija Pepper, 2017 Choreographic & Writing Dance Lab

Dance Victoria has engaged celebrated choreographer Wen Wei Wang to lead a two-week intensive Choreographic Lab for three emerging choreographers and six dancers.

Wen Wei has selected dancers for a total company of six (three women and three men) and two apprentices from a series of auditions in Vancouver and Victoria. At the end of the two-week intensive, there will be a public showing at Dance Victoria Studios at 5:00pm on Sat. July 29. RSVP required at rsvp@dancevictoria.com.

The Writing Dance Lab will be led by Kaija Pepper (Editor, Dance International Magazine, and celebrated author of three books and countless articles in major newspapers and magazines). Events at the Choreographic Lab will inspire a short piece of writing, which will be workshopped on the final two days. The choreographic lab is about in-process dance, and the writing, too, will be considered in-process.

More information about the Choreographic & Writing Dance Lab can be found here.
