Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet is looking for dancers to audition for children’s ensemble roles to take part in the Victoria performances of Nutcracker at the Royal Theatre from Dec 2 – 4, 2022.
Auditions are on Saturday September 10. Online pre-registration is required.
Before you sign up for an audition, please review all information on this page including schedule, COVID-19 policy, and the audition FAQs, and the RWB Participation Waiver.
PLEASE NOTE: Auditioning dancers must be between 3’8” and 5’6” in height and at least 7 years old (as of Dec. 31, 2022).
Unfortunately RWB is unable to allow for any exceptions for height requirements.
Registration Steps:
STEP 1: Online registration and pre-payment are required prior to September 10 (see form below).
Dancers must pre-register online (see below) and pay the $25 audition fee in advance through the online registration process. If the dancer is successful and offered a role, there will be an additional rehearsal fee of $60. These fees help offset costs associated with the professional instruction and rehearsal studio rental.
STEP 2: Download the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Participation Waiver which must be completed and brought to the Audition when you check in.
STEP 3: On Audition Day on Saturday September 10, bring your completed Royal Winnipeg Ballet Participation Waiver and a photo of your dancer (headshot or school photos are acceptable) when you check in between 10:00am-11:30am.

| Mice (Girls or Boys) | Required to perform basic dancing/blocking actions and wear large head pieces |
| Angels (Girls) | Required to act and perform intermediate dancing steps |
| Polar Bears | Required to perform basic dancing/blocking actions and wear large head pieces |
| Reindeer (Girls or Boys) up to 5’6” | Required to pull the sleigh and perform simple blocking (Girls perform en pointe if possible) |
Audition Day
When: Saturday, September 10, 2022
Where: Dance Victoria Studios – 2750 Quadra Street (north end of building)
10:00 – 11:30am Check-in for ALL dancers
11:30 – 11:45am Break
11:45 – 1:15pm Audition class #1: Children 7 & 8 years old
1:15 – 1:45pm Break
1:45 – 3:15pm Audition class #2: Children 9 years & older
Female presenting: black leotard (or darkest colour available), tights, ballet shoes, hair tidy in a bun.
Male presenting: black shorts or tights, white T-shirt or leotard, ballet shoes, hair tidy and off the face.
*NOTE: No skirts, jewelry, nail polish, or stage makeup please.
- Checking in: Children must be present when checking in on audition day to verify height requirement. (Registration for all dancers is from 10am-11:30am.)
- Photograph: A current photograph is required when checking-in for the audition (head shot or school photos acceptable). Please Note: Photographs will not be returned
