Back by popular demand, Ukrainian Shumka Dancers’ Nutcracker features principal dancers from the Kyiv Ballet (formerly Kiev) of the National Opera of Ukraine and folk dancers from the Virsky National Dance Ensemble in a celebration of Tchaikovsky’s beloved score. The performance will be accompanied by the Victoria Symphony, a local children’s ensemble from Veselka Ukrainian Dance Association, and Clara’s Dream Choir singers.
Shumka’s Nutcracker blends the grace and lyricism of classical ballet with the strength and power of Ukrainian folk and character dance. This classic tale of young Clara and her dream Prince incorporates Ukrainian traditions and lavish sets and costumes designed by National Opera of Ukraine’s Maria Levitska. Exuberant entertainment!
