A Call for Board Members

The Dance Victoria Society is seeking individuals to join our volunteer Board of Directors. We are looking for new members who:

• Have a passion for dance, the arts and community engagement.
• Add subject-matter expertise such as policy and governance, legal, fundraising, human resources, entrepreneurship, technology and/or arts administration.
• Bring perspectives that reflect and amplify the diversity of Greater Victoria and the Capital Regional District, including Indigenous knowledge, racial and ethnic diversity, gender identity and sexual orientation.

The Board membership term is two years, with possible renewal. Board members are appointed at the Annual General Meeting, held in early-November.

Dance Victoria’s Board of Directors is committed to ensuring that the group reflects the diversity of our region and that a wealth of perspectives inform our decisions. For that reason, individuals who identify as Indigenous, People of Colour, LGBTQ2S+, and people with disabilities are particularly encouraged to consider Board service.

Dance Victoria’s Board meets monthly, nine times a year (no meetings in December, July or August). Each Board member also serves on a committee. If you are invited to join us, your commitment would be about four hours of meetings in these months, plus some reading and preparation. Our responsibilities as a Board include strategic planning, monitoring the society’s financial operations, community engagement, fundraising, succession planning and performance assessment for the Board and executive management.

Process

We have developed an Expression of Interest questionnaire so you can tell us more about yourself and your interests. Each response will be considered by our Executive Committee.
