The Nrityagram Dance Ensemble, India’s foremost Odissi dance company, invites audiences to journey across time to witness KHANKANĀ, the sound of dancing feet. This North American premiere, never performed outside of India, features highly acclaimed pieces created over the last three decades by choreographer and internationally renowned Odissi artist Surupa Sen, showcasing Sen’s unique sensibility of thought and movement. The program will also include a specially remounted solo performance by Sen, who is highly revered as one of the world’s best Odissi dancers.
Nrityagram Dance Ensemble has the unprecedented distinction of making The New York Times “Best Dance of the Year” list two years in a row. A sensual and lyrical evening of vibrant movement, storytelling and live music.
Please note: Our originally scheduled presentation of Āhuti has changed. Due to unexpected logistical issues beyond our control, the guest performers from Sri Lanka’s Chitrasena Dance Company are unable to perform. However, we are thrilled to announce that in lieu of Āhuti, Nrityagram Dance Ensemble will be presenting an exclusive North American premiere of a new Odissi work KHANKANĀ: the sound of dancing feet (2025), offering Dance Victoria audiences a first look at the world-renowned company’s newest work, not seen outside of India.
One of the most luminous dance events of the year!
